David S. Howe, a partner in the law firm of Hancock & Estabrook LLP in Syracuse, has been named the new chair of the Trial Lawyer Section of the New York State Bar Association.
Mr. Howe has extensive experience in the trial of personal injury cases in the fields of liquefied petroleum gas (propane), manufacturer's products liability and hospital malpractice in state and federal district courts. He is a former prosecutor with the Onondaga County District Attorney’s office and has acted as a mediator in personal injury actions. Mr. Howe is the leader of the Firm's Products Liability practice group.
Mr. Howe received his law degree from Syracuse University College of Law (1972), a master’s degree from Syracuse University (1968) and his undergraduate degree from Syracuse University (1965).
Active in New York State Bar Association activities, in addition to being named chair of the trial lawyers section, Mr. Howe is a member the section’s Executive Committee.
The Trial Lawyers Section is one of 23 sections of the NYSBA. These groups publish material dealing with their fields of expertise, much of which is not available through commercial publishers. Sections also sponsor conferences, seminars and institutes, monitor legislation and conduct studies. Each of the sections contributes to policy-making, both in their subject areas and Association-wide. They originate many of the recommendations that become NYSBA policy positions and act as checks and balances of other entities.
