Employment Law for the GP and Corporate Counselor (2011)

This popular, basic-to-intermediate level program, updated and revamped from previous years, is structured to cover on a practical basis the issues and problems typically arising in today’s workplace on which corporate counsel, or a private practitioner with a general practice, may be called to handle on behalf of the company or the employee. At the same time, the faculty shares tips and strategies designed to avoid costly litigation.

The expert panelists discuss:

       * what to include in employment contracts, drafting tips and the reasons for using certain clauses;
       * drafting and using an employee manual and what it should, and should not, contain;
       * the range of federal, state and New York City laws barring discrimination and addressing workplace rights and policies;
       * how to prepare and handle employment disputes before administrative agencies;
       * where problems arise in hiring, firing, privacy claims, background checks and referrals;
       * the common ethical dilemmas, and suggested approaches in handling them, arising in many employment law settings.
