Public Sector Labor Relations 2012 (2012)

Labor-management issues continue to headline the agendas of municipalities, school districts, and other governmental entities throughout the State of New York. The laws and contracts covering public sector workers are the subject of news articles, editorials, blog posts, legislative hearings, and other forums of public comment on an almost daily basis. From pension reform (new Tier VI) and the rising cost of health insurance (the Patient Protection and Affordable Care Act) to strains on governmental budgets (real property tax cap) and the increasing use of social media (Facebook, Twitter, Google+), public sector labor law (and labor-management relations) continues to grow in importance and scope.

This basic-to-intermediate level program provides an in-depth look at current issues that continue to dominate the public discourse vis-à-vis public sector labor relations. The topics discussed include: pensions, health insurance, social media, collective bargaining including the effects of the State’s real property tax cap, and ethical issues in workplace investigations.

Speakers include representatives from the State agencies as well as advocates who represent management and labor. The program is designed for general practitioners and labor relations specialists. Those just entering the public sector labor law area will also find the discussions informative and enlightening.
