1.5 MCLE Credits
(1.5 credits in areas of professional practice)

Sponsored by the Health Law Section Committee on Fraud, Abuse and Compliance

The New York State Bar Association Health Law Section Committee on Fraud, Abuse and Compliance presents Basic Health Law for the Non-Health Lawyer.  This webinar will provide an overview of frequent legal issues faced by health care providers, including the federal anti-kickback statute, the federal Stark Law's prohibitions against self referrals, accountable care organizations and other issues arising from the new federal Patient Protection and Affordable Care Act,  NY’s prohibitions against fee splitting and corporate practice of medicine, HIPAA and other patient confidentiality issues, managed care contracting, “concierge” medicine, professional discipline issues, price fixing and other antitrust issues which arise in basic health care transactions, key tax issues and the interplay between general corporate law and health law in physician/hospital transactions.  The panel will discuss these issues in the context of a hypothetical fact pattern involving a physician/hospital health care transaction "gone bad".

This course will be beneficial to those who do not regularly practice in the health care field or are new to the field as well as those looking for an overview of critical federal and state health law issues which face health care providers in New York State.
