LEGAL COUNSEL DIVISION ATTORNEY

 

The New York City Law Department is seeking an attorney to fill an immediate opening in its Legal Counsel Division. Division attorneys provide legal advice to the Mayor, other elected City officials and City agencies with respect to proposed policy initiatives and identify procedures that must be complied with to effectuate these initiatives, including the drafting of state and local legislation and rules, inter-agency agreements, and other necessary legal documents.

The Division is also responsible for the final drafting and review of all bills in the legislative package presented by the Mayor to the State Legislature and performs a similar function with respect to local legislation. Members of the Division work closely with the Mayor's Washington, Albany and local offices of Legislative Affairs, seeking the enactment of federal, state and local legislation.

Requirements for this intellectually challenging and high-profile position include an outstanding academic record, strong legal analysis and writing skills and admission to the New York State Bar.
