Hon. Margaret J. Finerty

Hon. Margaret J. Finerty of New York (Getnick & Getnick) has been
elected member-at-large of the Executive Committee of the New York State
Bar Association (NYSBA).
Finerty received her undergraduate degree from the University of
Chicago and earned her law degree from Cornell Law School.
Finerty is a partner at Getnick & Getnick, concentrating her
practice in independent monitoring (IPSIG); false claims act, qui tam;
IRS whistleblower cases; business integrity, transparency and compliance
counseling; corporate international investigations; civil prosecution of
commercial fraud; RICO; and commercial litigation. She served as a judge
of the Criminal Court of the City of New York from 1995-1998, having
been appointed by Mayor Rudolph W. Giuliani.
Active in the State Bar for 15 years, Finerty is a member of the
House of Delegates, and the Criminal Justice and Health Law Sections.
She previously was a member of the Business Law Section and the
Committee to Review Judicial Nominations.
Within the New York County Lawyers’ Association (NYCLA),
Finerty is a member of its Board of Directors and co-chair of the Task
Force on Judicial Selection. She previously chaired its Committee on
Criminal Law & Procedure, Special Committee on State Court
Facilities, Task Force on Cameras in the Courtroom, and the Judiciary
Committee, as well as co-chaired the Criminal Justice Section. She also
co-authored a major report issued by NYCLA’s Task Force to
Increase Diversity in the Legal Profession.
Finerty also is a member of the New York City Bar, where she has
served on several committees including Judiciary, Minorities in the
Courts, Criminal Law, and Criminal Justice Operations and Budget. She
has been a member of the American Bar Association since 1979.
