Jay G. Safer
Vice President, 1st District
Jay G. Safer of New York (Locke Lord Bissell & Liddell) has been
elected to serve as vice-president for the First Judicial District on
the Executive Committee of the New York State Bar Association.
A resident of Mamaroneck, Safer is a partner in Locke Lord Bissell
& Liddell’s New York office and has experience handling
complex litigation and arbitration in the United States and abroad.
Safer served as a member-at-large on the State Bar’s Executive
Committee from 2003 to 2006 and currently serves on the House of
Delegates. He previously chaired the State Bar’s Commercial and
Federal Litigation Section and currently co-chairs its Federal Judiciary
Committee. He also is a member of the State Bar’s International
Section where he currently co-chairs the International Litigation
Committee and a member of the State Bar’s Dispute Resolution
Section.
Safer was appointed by Chief Judge Judith S. Kaye to serve on a
Special Commission on the Future of the New York State Courts. He was
named a member of the Lawyers Committee of the National Center for State
Courts. He was appointed to the Planning Committee for the Judicial
Conference of the United State Court of Appeals for the Second Circuit.
He has served as a lecturer on panels, bench-bar forums, and is a member
of committees with judges and attorneys discussing a wide range of civil
litigation issues, international arbitration and litigation skills,
including cross examination for the National Institute for Trial
Advocacy, professional ethics, and e-discovery.
He also is a member of the New York City Bar, Federal Bar Council,
the Federal Bar Association, and the American Bar Association. He is a
fellow of the American and New York Bar Foundations.
Safer received his undergraduate degree from Vanderbilt University
and earned his law degree from Columbia Law School.
