STATE BAR PRESIDENT SEYMOUR W. JAMES, JR. CONGRATULATES
RANDALL T. ENG ON DESIGNATION AS PRESIDING JUSTICE

New York State Bar Association President Seymour W. James, Jr. today extended his congratulations on behalf of the New York State Bar Association to the Hon. Randall T. Eng, who was designated presiding justice of the Appellate Division, Second Department.

“Justice Eng has had a distinguished legal career spanning nearly four decades, dating back to his days in the Queens County DA’s office through his service in the state’s busiest appellate court,” said James (The Legal Aid Society in New York City). “He has accumulated a unique breadth of legal experiences during his long career, and has demonstrated fairness and wisdom from the bench. We are confident he will do an outstanding job.”

Eng assumes the presiding justice duties from Hon. William F. Mastro, who has served as acting presiding justice since December 2011, when Presiding Justice A. Gail Prudenti was appointed the state chief administrative judge by Chief Judge Jonathan Lippman.

A native of Canton, China, Eng served as acting justice of the Supreme Court from 1988 to 1991 and joined the Supreme Court in 1991. He was appointed to the Appellate Division in 2008, becoming the second Asian-American judge to serve on a New York State appellate court.
The Appellate Division, Second Department, based in Brooklyn, covers 10 counties: Kings, Queens, Westchester, Nassau, Suffolk, Dutchess, Orange, Putnam, Rockland and Richmond.

The 77,000-member New York State Bar Association is the largest voluntary state bar association in the nation. It was founded in 1876.
