
Claire P. Gutekunst

Claire P. Gutekunst of New York
City was re-elected to a second term as treasurer.
A resident of Manhattan who
grew up in the Glens Falls area, Gutekunst received her undergraduate
and master’s degrees from Brown University and her law degree from
the Yale Law School.
Gutekunst is an independent
mediator and arbitrator for commercial and other disputes. As special
master for the NYC Asbestos Litigation, she is responsible for
resolving disputes concerning discovery and trial readiness issues,
holding settlement conferences and assisting administrative and trial
judges in managing the dockets of all asbestos personal injury and
wrongful death cases filed in New York City.
Active in the State Bar for 24
years, Gutekunst most recently served as vice-president of the first
judicial district of the State Bar’s Executive Committee and
chaired the Membership Committee. She co-chaired the Special Committee
on Rules for Consideration of Reports. She previously chaired the
Committee on Women in the Law and the Strategic Planning Advisory
Committee. She is a member of the Commercial and Federal Litigation
Section’s Executive Committee and the Committee on Diversity. She
also is a Maryann Saccomando Freedman Fellow of The New York Bar
Foundation.
Gutekunst is a frequent speaker
and author on issues relating to trial practice and alternative dispute
resolution. She is a member of the Executive Committee and the National
Task Force on Diversity in ADR of the International Institute for
Conflict Prevention and Resolution (CPR). From 1997 to 2006,
Gutekunst served on both the New York State Judicial Screening Committee
and the First Department Judicial Screening Committee. She also
chairs the Advisory Council of the YWCA-NYC’s Academy of Women
Leaders.
