ANNOUNCES NEW SECTION CHAIRS
Six newly-appointed section chairs of the New York State Bar
Association will take office during the State Bar’s Annual Meeting
this week.
The 25 sections of the State Bar publish material dealing with their
fields of expertise, much of which is not available through commercial
publishers. They also sponsor conferences, seminars and institutes,
monitor legislation and conduct studies. Each section contributes to
policy-making, both in subject areas and association-wide.
The new section chairs are:
Eric J. Stock of Manhattan (Hogan Lovells), chair of
the 524-member Antitrust Section. A graduate of the
University of Pennsylvania and Harvard Law School, Stock concentrates
his practice on antitrust and complex commercial litigation matters,
with a focus on antitrust litigation, government investigations and
commercial disputes.
Howard S. Shafer of Manhattan (Shafer Glazer), chair
of the 1,705-member Corporate Counsel Section. A
graduate of Rutgers University and Brooklyn Law School, Shafer is the
managing partner of Shafer Glazer and the president and general counsel
of Counsel Holdings, Inc., a law firm marketing company.
Diana L. Wollman of Manhattan (Sullivan &
Cromwell) chair of the 2,691-member Tax Law Section. A
graduate of Harvard University and the University of California at Los
Angeles School of Law, Wollman concentrates her practice on U.S. federal
tax matters and New York State corporate and bank tax matters.
Robert F. McCarthy of Mineola (Nationwide Mutual
Insurance), chair of the 2,697-member Torts, Insurance and
Compensation Law Section. A graduate of St. John’s
University and Fordham University School of Law, McCarthy is a regional
leader with the staff counsel operations of Nationwide Mutual Insurance.
His primary specialization is commercial, excess, surplus and specialty
lines of insurance.
Elizabeth M. Hecht of White Plains (Mead Hecht
Conklin & Gallagher), chair of the 2,314-member Trial
Lawyers Section. A graduate of Fairfield University and Pace
University School of Law, Hecht concentrates her practice in the defense
of all varieties of tort actions from inception through appeal.
Carl T. Baker of Glens Falls (Fitzgerald Morris
Baker Firth), chair of the 4,890-member Trusts and Estates
Section. A graduate of Cornell University and Albany Law
School, Baker concentrates his practice in trusts and estates.
The 76,000-member New York State Bar Association is the largest
voluntary state bar association in the nation. It was founded in
1876.
