NEW YORK BAR FOUNDATION ACCEPTING APPLICATIONS FOR
TRUSTS AND ESTATES LAW SECTION FELLOWSHIPS
$5,000 Fellowship Awards Permit Second-Year Law
Students to Work in Trusts and Estates Law Public Sector Positions
during summer 2011
The Trusts and Estates Law Section of the New York State
Bar Association has contributed $10,000 to The New York Bar Foundation
to establish fellowships for second-year law students. Two fellowships
of $5,000 each will be awarded to second-year law students currently
enrolled in law schools in New York State.
M. Catherine Richardson (Bond, Schoeneck & King, PLLC, Syracuse),
president of The New York Bar Foundation said, “We are very
pleased to accept this generous gift from the Trusts and Estates Law
Section. These fellowships will offer a terrific opportunity for law
students to have a meaningful working experience in the Surrogate Courts
under the mentorship of prestigious judges.”
Gary B. Freidman of New York (Greenfield Stein & Senior, LLP),
chair of the Trusts and Estates Law Section, said, “The Trusts and
Estates Law Section is pleased to make this contribution to The New York
Bar Foundation to establish these fellowships. This work experience will
expose the student to the numerous opportunities available in a career
in trusts and estates law. The knowledge and skills learned will serve
them well regardless of their career path.”
The Fellowship Program will provide students with an opportunity to
experience trusts and estates law practice. The ultimate goal of the
Fellowship is to create a network and forge relationships among trusts
and estates law attorneys throughout the State of New York.
The ten-week fellowship will take place from June 6 to August 13,
2011. One fellow will work in the Chambers of the Honorable Barbara
Howe, Surrogate, Erie County Surrogate's Court, 92 Franklin Street,
Buffalo, NY, and one fellow will work in the Chambers of the Honorable
John M. Czygier, Jr., Surrogate, Suffolk County Surrogate's Court, 320
Center Drive, Riverhead, NY. The fellowship application deadline is
January 31, 2011.
Each fellow will be a guest member of the NYSBA Trusts and Estates
Law Section for one year starting with the award of the fellowship.
Additionally, they will be invited to attend Executive Committee
meetings of the Section during summer 2011.
