STATE BAR ASSOCIATION ANNOUNCES NEW EXECUTIVE
COMMITTEE MEMBERS
ALBANY—Seven attorneys have been elected to the Executive
Committee of the New York State Bar Association.
The 27-member Executive Committee oversees the management and
administration of the State Bar within policies determined by its
governing body, the House of Delegates.
The newly-elected Executive Committee members are:
Seymour W. James, Jr. of Brooklyn,
President-Elect. A graduate of Brown University and
Boston University School of Law, James is the attorney-in-charge of the
criminal practice of the Legal Aid Society in New York City. He served
as State Bar Treasurer from 2008-2011 and Twelfth Judicial District
Vice-President from 2004-2008.
Claire P. Gutekunst of New York City,
Treasurer. A graduate of Brown University and Yale Law
School, Gutekunst is a partner in Proskauer’s litigation and
dispute resolution department. She previously was a First Judicial
District Vice-President and member-at-large on the Executive
Committee.
Jay Safer of New York City, Vice-President
of the First Judicial District. A graduate of Vanderbilt
University and Columbia Law School, Safer is a partner at Locke Lord
Bissell & Liddell. He served as a member-at-large on the Executive
Committee from 2003-2006.
Rebecca Slezak of Amsterdam, Vice-President
of the Fourth Judicial District. A graduate of Rensselaer
Polytechnic Institute and Albany Law School, Slezak has served as the
court attorney to the Montgomery County Family Court since January
2003.
Arlene Gordon-Oliver of White Plains,
Vice-President of the Ninth Judicial District. A
graduate of Baruch College and Fordham University School of Law,
Gordon-Oliver is the managing partner of Arlene Gordon-Oliver PC and a
justice on the Greenburgh Town Court in Westchester County.
Grace Marino Mattei of Staten Island,
Vice-President of the Thirteenth Judicial District. A
graduate of Pace University and New York Law School, Mattei has a
private law practice with emphasis on real estate, and wills and
estates.
Oliver C. Young of Buffalo,
Member-at-Large. A graduate of the University of
Wisconsin and State University of New York at Buffalo Law School, Young
is the principal court attorney for the Eighth Judicial District of the
State Supreme Court.
Their terms began June 1.
The 77,000-member New York State Bar Association is the largest
voluntary state bar association in the nation. It was founded in
1876.
