STATE BAR SEEKS NOMINATIONS FOR 2011 DIVERSITY
TRAILBLAZER AWARD
Award Recognizes Efforts by a New York Lawyer to
Promote Equal Participation of Minorities in the Legal
Profession
ALBANY—The New York State Bar Association is seeking nominees
for its 2011 Diversity Trailblazer Award, which is sponsored by the
State Bar’s Committee on Diversity. The award is given annually to
a New York attorney whose exceptional efforts have advanced the full and
equal participation of minorities at all levels of the legal
profession.
“The legal profession in New York interacts daily with a
diverse cross section of clients. It is essential that the profession
fully reflects all the people it serves. We have made many advances in
our efforts to promote diversity within the profession, but more must be
done to obtain full and equal participation,” said Kenneth G.
Standard of New York (Epstein Becker and Green, P.C.), co-chair of the
Committee on Diversity and a past president of the State Bar. “To
that end, we want to recognize attorneys who have worked towards
achieving a more diverse profession.”
Betty Lugo of Brooklyn (Pacheco & Lugo, PLLC), co-chair of the
committee, added, “It is important not only to recognize diversity
within the legal profession, but to promote opportunities for
advancement and professional growth through networking and
collaboration. This award salutes the accomplishments of attorneys who
are helping to achieve the diversity within the profession that we all
desire.”
The deadline for nominations is Friday, September 24, 2010.
Nomination forms are available online at www.nysba.org/2011TrailblazerAwardNomForm.
The completed nomination form and attachment(s) must be submitted to
Betty Brewer, Bar Services Department, New York State Bar Association,
One Elk Street, Albany, NY 12207 or bbrewer@nysba.org. The award will be
presented on Monday, January 24, 2011 at the Eighth Annual Celebrating
Diversity Reception held during the State Bar’s Annual Meeting in
New York City.

John’s University School of Law); Laurie Robinson (founder and CEO

Bloomberg).
