The Trial of Ahmed Ghailani

New York State Bar Association President Stephen P. Younger of New York (Patterson Belknap Webb & Tyler LLP) today issued the following statement commenting on the trial of Ahmed Ghailani in the Federal District Court for the Southern District of New York:

“The trial of Mr. Ghailani demonstrated, once again, the strength of our legal system and its fundamental importance to our democracy. Despite all of the emotions surrounding the trial, the jury verdict was rendered on the legal evidence produced in the courtroom. A distinguished jurist assured that the proceedings were conducted in accordance with the law and that the jury’s decision was made based on the legal concepts that have supported this country for more than 200 years. The trial demonstrated that even in a highly charged atmosphere the rule of law is our greatest strength.”
