NEW YORK STATE BAR ASSOCIATION OFFERS FREE WEBCASTS
FOR LAWYERS ON CAREER DEVELOPMENT IN A DOWN ECONOMY
Committee on Lawyers in Transition Provides
Guidance on Job Searches, Networking & Alternative Careers
To help lawyers better manage their careers during this tough
economy, the New York State Bar Association Committee on Lawyers in
Transition is continuing its series of free, live webcasts to guide
attorneys as they search for new jobs, revise resumes, brush-up on their
interview skills and contemplate career changes. The Committee
will offer webcasts on July 9th, July 22nd and August 13th that will be
available to all attorneys who pre-register at www.nysba.org/LawyersinTransition.
“The legal profession is no different than any other. Lawyers
in every practice area and at every level of experience have encountered
layoffs or a slow down in business. In line with my priorities as State
Bar president, we have developed comprehensive review courses to help
these lawyers cope with the recession, get back on track and better
serve their clients,” said State Bar President Michael E. Getnick
(Getnick Livingston Atkinson & Priore, LLP of Utica and of counsel
to Getnick & Getnick of New York City).
Chaired by Lauren J. Wachtler (Mitchell, Silberberg & Knupp LLP
of New York City), the Committee on Lawyers in Transition was created in
August 2006 by Past President Mark Alcott (Paul, Weiss, Rifkind, Wharton
& Garrison LLP of New York City) to provide resources and assistance
to lawyers who are currently unemployed, looking to make a career
change, leaving a current job or transitioning back into the workforce
after time away from the legal profession.
