Law and Civic Education Summer Institute
Registration is now open for the 2013 Law and Civic Education Summer
Institute hosted by the Law, Youth and Citizenship Program of the New
York State Bar Association and Project PATCH (K-12 Law and Civic
Education Program of the Northport – East Northport UFSD).
Our special guest speaker this year will be Mary Beth Tinker, litigant
in the landmark United States Supreme Court case of Tinker v. Des
Moines.
The Summer Institute will be held June 25 – 28, 8 am – 4:30
pm, at Northport High School. This institute is open to all New York
teachers (K-12).
Early registration is encouraged. Seats are “first-come,
first-served.” Opportunities for “in-service” credit
or graduate credit through Stony Brook University are
available.

Civics & Law Honor Roll Opportunity

The Civics & Law Honor Roll recognizes secondary school
students who have demonstrated a commitment to civic learning and
engagement. Created by the American Bar Association Commission on Civic
Education in the Nation’s Schools, its purpose is to create
enthusiasm for and reward academic and community volunteer achievements
in civic education and engagement. LYC will recognize students for the
Civics & Law Honor Roll in accordance with selection criteria
recommended by the ABA. The opportunity is open to students in public
and private high schools and local organizations, including, but not
limited to, Boy and Girl Scouts, YMCAs, YWCAs, Boys and Girls Clubs,
home schools, as well as other judicial, legal, civic, or educational
