The Law, Youth and Citizenship (LYC) Program promotes citizenship and law-related education in schools throughout New York State. LYC assists educators in creating opportunities for students to become effective citizens able to participate fully in our democratic society.

We are pleased to announce our 33rd annual
law-related and civic education conference,
Oct. 15 & 16, 2009.
This year's theme:
Dealing with the New World Order
   
A series of seminars and workshops addressing environmental issues, financial literacy, economic topics and equality. Issues, including (but not limited to) global warming, the economic impact of environmental changes, historic economic events, civic engagement, immigration, and participatory government.
Conference fee of $90 includes all meals, a cruise on Lake George, registration for all five sessions (20 workshops scheduled), and materials.

With the support of the Office of Diversity Initiatives of the Law School Admission Council (LSAC), Project LAWbound builds upon Latino Justice’s current pre-law programming with the primary objective of identifying Latino students early in their college career and providing targeted services that address some of the most common barriers to admission to law school. The Academy is August 10-14, 2009. The curriculum is an academic empowerment program that introduces legal methods and processes, and provides comprehensive pre-law counseling. Click here for application.   Deadline June 29

TOTTENVILLE HIGH SCHOOL

2009 NYS MOCK TRIAL CHAMPIONS

On May 19th, 2009 the Tottenville High School Mock Trial team won the NYS Mock Trial Tournament.  Judge David R. Homer, a United States Magistrate Judge, presided over the final round between Tottenville and Lehman Alternative Community School.  The Tottenville team consisted of Tom Bekhit, Nicole DeLaRue, Joseph Guarini, Kelsy Knutsen, Joseph LaBarbara, Amar Patel, and Michael Tomborra.  The team is coached by Steve Saliski, attorney advisor is Gregory Matarrese and Justin Matarrese is the graduate advisor.

The teams that came to Albany to compete in the NYS Mock Trial Tournament Finals:
