Out the Door, But Not Over the Hill (2008)
As an increasing number of lawyers reach the age when those in other
fields of endeavor begin to think about retirement, the lawyers are
asking a different set of questions:
What can I do NEXT?
Where can I use my legal skills in NEW WAYS?
Can I shift from private practice to PUBLIC SERVICE?
Is it possible to remain ACTIVE AND PRODUCTIVE and still take a little
more time for FAMILY
Although the ABA, behind the leadership of NYSBA, has voted to oppose
mandatory retirement policies, many lawyers recognize that it is not an
either/or question—work or not work, retire or remain
employed—the real issue is finding ways to transition your career
in directions that are both professionally and personally rewarding.
The ABA’s Second Season of Service Commission, created by 2006-07
ABA President Karen Mathis, recognized the challenges facing lawyers
approaching this point in their careers.
This special program focuses on likely scenarios confronting attorneys
approaching retirement age who may wish to stay engaged in the
profession.
