Selecting and Managing International Counsel (2011)
When your client has dealings in a foreign country, you need to know
how to help. This is your opportunity to learn about how different
foreign jurisdictions vary from the U.S. and each other, how to identify
the key issues your client will face, how lawyers in different regions
operate, and how to select counsel with the knowledge and experience to
help you. This 2011 Annual Meeting program of the International Section
addresses differences in law practice, basic jurisdictional differences,
and considerations in selecting and working with international
counsel.
Your client may want to establish operations overseas. It may want to
enter into a cross-border sales, supply or investment relationship. It
may have been sued by a foreign plaintiff in a foreign jurisdiction.
Your client may want to move abroad or may have a question regarding
international taxation. In each of these situations, you will need to
obtain relevant information and will want to hire and manage
international counsel.
This program will assist you in these tasks through three panels, each
of which will address a different geographic region: (1) the Americas,
(2) Europe and (3) Asia, Oceania and Middle East.
