Peter S. Loomis, Esq.
Peter S. Loomis recently retired from his position as Chief
Administrative Law Judge at the New York State Department of
Transportation in Albany. Judge Loomis served as the agency's
Chief ALJ for more than 10 years and prior to that time was a staff ALJ
for more than 20 years. He began his career as an attorney in
DOT's Counsel's office in 1975. Between 2003 and 2006, Judge
Loomis interrupted his tenure as Chief ALJ to serve as the agency's
Chief Counsel. He is a 1968 graduate of Hamilton College, Clinton,
New York, and received his Juris Doctor degree from the Syracuse
University College of Law in 1974. In addition to serving as Chair
of the Committee on Attorneys in Public Service of the New York State
Bar Association, Judge Loomis is a Member of the Board of Governors of
the National Association of Administrative Law Judiciary (NAALJ), Vice
President of the Board of Directors of the Rhodes Memorial Fund, a
Capital District based private charitable foundation, and Treasurer of
the Whitehall Station Homeowner's Association. He is also on the
Board of the New York State Association of Administrative Law Judges
(NYSALJA), of which he is a past president.
