Welcome to the Committee on Professional Discipline
The Committee on Professional
Discipline’s primary purpose is to assist in maintaining and
improving the overall effectiveness and fairness of New York’s
attorney disciplinary system. To that end, the Committee monitors
the current disciplinary practices of the disciplinary and grievance
committees and studies professional responsibility issues affecting
lawyers and law firms. The Committee regularly reviews and
analyzes the rules, regulations and statutes applicable to lawyer
conduct, as well as the procedural rules governing the disciplinary
system, and makes proposals to improve the fair and effective regulation
of the legal profession and further the protection of the public.
The Committee also strives to increase public awareness of the work of
the disciplinary and grievance committees. In furtherance of these
goals, the Committee issues reports and proposals for consideration by
the Bar’s leadership and publishes an Annual Report on
the New York State disciplinary system.
The Committee on Professional Discipline is chaired by Sarah Jo
Hamilton, Esq.
