Representing a Political Candidate: Everything You Wanted to Know But Were Afraid to Ask
Tuesday, June 22, 2010
- Location -
New York State Nurses Association
11 Cornell Road
Latham, NY 12110
(518) 782-9400
Description
4.0 TOTAL
CREDITS
2.0 credit hours of professional practice and/or practice
management; 2.0 skills.
This basic-level course has been approved for MCLE credit in
New
York for all attorneys,
including newly admitted (less than 24 months).
For those involved or interested in political campaigns and who may
represent political and public figures, we are pleased to offer an
updated version of our well-received 2008 program on election law that
will address many of 2010’s issues and problems arising under New
York’s election law. The complexities and minutiae in the law and
its processes - from getting on the ballot, financing the campaign
(including the fallout from the recent Supreme Court decision of
Citizens United that struck down restrictions on campaign spending by
corporations), monitoring activities on election day, and all the way
through to post-election court strategies and options – create
vast opportunities for inadvertent and substantial errors that can lead
to court challenges and greatly affect candidates and their
campaigns.
This important, half-day seminar, offered in six convenient locations
around the state, is a practical hands-on primer that will familiarize
you with the New York laws regulating elections in the state, offer tips
in recognizing possibly illegal campaign activities, and suggest how to
most appropriately handle challenges and controversies when they do
arise.
