Providing Legal Assistance to Persons Affected by Superstorm Sandy
Free CLE Webcast and Live Program

The New York State Bar Association is pleased to present a free CLE webcast on Providing Legal Assistance to Persons Affected by Superstorm Sandy on Thursday, November 15, 2012 from 4:00 p.m. - 7:00 p.m. This program will be streamed live from the State Bar Center in Albany. 

Geared towards attorneys assisting Superstorm Sandy victims, this program will include an informational overview of state and federal relief programs. Panelists will provide an overview of assistance programs and relief options.  Panelists will discuss programs set up by the American Red Cross, FEMA, IRS, the Small Business Association, the NYS Department of Labor and the NYS Division of Financial Services.

Segments of this program will carry MCLE credit for attorneys.  Panelists will cover legal considerations relative to disaster relief situations. Panelists will provide an overview of the law relative to insurance considerations and landlord/tenant issues.  Panelists will also cover client counseling relative to disaster unemployment assistance, document loss/replacement records, banking, consumer debt/credit Issues and family law considerations.  Panelists will provide best practices and advice on counseling clients impacted by Superstorm Sandy. 

This program is open to all members and non-members.  Pre-registration is required.  

Please note that newly admitted attorneys must attend in person to receive MCLE credit and cannot receive credit for viewing the webcast online.

If you are unable to participate in the live program on November 15th, the program archive will be made available online and may be viewed for informational purposes at a later date.

This program will be streamed live from the New York State Bar Association in Albany. Limited seating is available for those wishing to attend in person. If you would like to attend in person, please use the link below to register.

Select local bar associations and law schools will be hosting group "video-viewing" sessions.  If you are in the NYC area, you can go to the New York City Bar Association to view the program with other members.  The City Bar will be streaming the video in a conference room.  Touro Law Center in conjunction with the Suffolk County Bar Association will also be hosting a "video-viewing" at Touro Law Center.  The Nassau County Bar Association also invites its members view the program at its conference facility.  Attorneys at the "video-viewing" sessions must sign in and turn in an MCLE form.  These programs are considered group video-viewings of the program and unfortunately newly admitted attorneys cannot receive MCLE credit for their participation.

This program will be streamed as a live CLE Webcast. If you register for the CLE Webcast, you will be able to view the program video online and email questions to the panelists during the live program. You will also have access to the program archive.

Be advised that during the webcast, program verification codes will be displayed on the screen and announced. In order to receive MCLE credit, you will need to print the MCLE Attestation Form and write down the program codes. The State Bar's Lawyer Referral and Information Service is recruiting attorneys who can provide free telephone consultations to individuals affected by Superstorm Sandy. There is need for attorneys with insurance, landlord/tenant, co-op and condo, or FEMA appeals experience, as well as those who can handle general practice matters.  Attorneys outside the NYC area are encouraged to volunteer. FROM NORTH: 87 South to I-90 East (toward Boston), then 787 South to downtown Albany (Clinton Ave exit). Turn left at first light (Broadway), right at State Street and right at Lodge Street. Park at Crowne Plaza Hotel Parking Garage and walk up Pine Street. Turn right onto Eagle Street and continue to corner of Elk and Eagle Streets. State Bar Center is directly across the street.
FROM SOUTH: NYS Exit 23 to 787. Exit Rt. 9 North and Rt 20 West, bear right. Turn left at light, right onto Broadway, left onto State Street and right at Lodge Street, where you may park at the Crowne Plaza Hotel Parking Garage. Follow walking directions above.
FROM WEST: NYS Thruway Exit 24 to I-90 East (toward Boston). Take 787 South to downtown Albany (Clinton Avenue exit) and follow parking/walking directions above.
FROM EAST: I-90 West to 787 South to downtown Albany (Clinton Avenue) and follow parking/walking directions above.
