Attorney Discipline in New York: Four
Different Departments, Four Different Approaches—Should Attorney
Discipline Be Uniform? In this program, a panel of experts, including
Appellate Division justices, will engage in a moderated discussion of
the benefits and detriments of New York’s uniquely organized
disciplinary system. Among other topics, the panel will explore the
different ways New York’s four Appellate Divisions handle attorney
discipline cases, highlighting substantive case law and court rules, and
debate the relative merits of a uniform system granting every attorney
substantively similar procedural rights.
Meeting 9:00 a.m. – 1:00 p.m.
Under New York’s MCLE rule, this
program has been approved for a total of 4.0 credit hours; 2.0 credits
in areas of professional practice and 2.0 credits in Ethics. This
program is not transitional and will not qualify for credit for
newly-admitted attorneys.
