Description
This program is the third annual update on New
York Civil Practice rules and decisions delivered statewide by David
Paul Horowitz. Mr. Horowitz will discuss recent developments in New York
civil practice; flagging problems, suggesting solutions, and focusing on
best practices. Topics include ethics, the new uniform notice of claim
statute, statutes of limitations, jurisdiction, pleadings, electronic
and other disclosure developments, evidence, motion practice, and
trials, emphasizing the practical impact of recent case law and
statutory developments.

About the Presenter
David Paul Horowitz, Esq., has litigated in New York courts for over
24 years as a plaintiff's personal injury attorney and may be reached at
david@newyorkpractice.org.
He is "of counsel" to Ressler & Ressler in New York City and
concentrates his practice in complex tort claims, including products
liability, legal and medical malpractice, and construction litigation,
as well as general negligence cases. He has been selected annually since
2007 for inclusion in the New York Super Lawyers listing.
He is a reporter for the New York Pattern Jury Instruction Committee:
Civil, a member of the Office of Court Administration's CPLR Advisory
Committee, and a member of the New York State Bar Association's CPLR
Committee and the New York City Bar Association's Courts of Superior
Jurisdiction Committee.
He teaches New York Practice, Professional Responsibility and
Electronic Evidence & Disclosure at Brooklyn Law School. In addition
to programs in civil practice, evidence, disclosure, and settlements at
the New York State Judicial Institute, he lectures statewide on these
and other topics on behalf of numerous bar associations, and at law
firms and legal departments. Mr. Horowitz received his B.A. from Lehman
College, City University of New York and his J.D. from Fordham
University School of Law.
Effective May 1, 2010, he is the sole author of the nine-volume set
Bender's New York Evidence. He is also the author of the
treatise, New York Civil Disclosure, revised and reissued
annually since 2004, together with the 2008 and 2013 Supplements to
Fisch on New York Evidence. He pens the monthly column, "Burden
of Proof," on disclosure and evidence, for the New York State Bar
Journal.
Mr. Horowitz is a founding Dean of CLE at the New York State Academy
of Trial Lawyers.
