12th Judicial District

Lawrence R. Bailey, Jr. of New York (Hodgson Russ LLP) has been elected to serve as Vice-President of the 12th Judicial District of the Association’s Executive Committee.

Bailey received his undergraduate degree from Lehigh University, and his law degree from New York University School of Law.

Bailey is a partner of Hodgson Russ LLP, practicing in the Employment Litigation Practice Group and the Torts, Insurance & Products Liability Practice Group. He focuses his practice in: products liability; civil litigation; transportation, including the Federal Employers' Liability Act and other railroad matters; personal injury defense; and corporate litigation.

An active leader within the Association, Bailey served as Vice-President of the 12th Judicial District of the Executive Committee from 2001 to 2007; served as a member of the House of Delegates from 1997 to 2007; chaired the Torts, Insurance and Compensation Law Section in 1999; and served on the Executive Committee of the Trial Lawyers Section.

Bailey served as past chair of the Rail and Motor Law Committee of TIPS of the American Bar Association. He served as President and eastern Vice-President of the National Association of Railroad Trial Counsel. He is a member of the International Association of Defense Counsel, Defense Research Institute, and the Federation of Insurance and Corporate Counsel. He is a frequent lecturer on trial law.

The 26-member Executive Committee has the authority to act and speak for the NYSBA, consistent with previous action of the House of Delegates, when the House is not in session. The Executive Committee meets quarterly and at other times as necessary. The Executive Committee is composed of the President, President-Elect, Treasurer, and Secretary of the Association. In addition, there are vice-presidents from each of the twelve judicial districts (the 1st district has two Vice-presidents) in the state and eight members-at-large. The immediate past president is also a member of this body. All officers are elected to serve one-year terms.

The 74,000 member New York State Bar Association is the official statewide organization of lawyers in New York and the largest voluntary state bar association in the nation. Founded in 1876, NYSBA programs and activities have continuously served the public and improved the justice system for more than 130 years.
