Lawrence R. Bailey, Jr. of New York
(Hodgson Russ LLP) has been elected to serve as
Vice-President of the 12th Judicial District of the
Association’s Executive Committee.
Bailey received his undergraduate
degree from Lehigh University,
and his law degree from New York University School of
Law.
Bailey is a partner of Hodgson Russ
LLP, practicing in the Employment Litigation Practice Group and the
Torts, Insurance & Products Liability Practice Group. He focuses his
practice in: products liability; civil litigation;
transportation, including the Federal Employers' Liability Act and other
railroad matters; personal injury defense; and corporate
litigation.
An active leader within the
Association, Bailey served as Vice-President of the 12th Judicial District
of the Executive Committee from 2001 to 2007; served as a member of the
House of Delegates from 1997 to 2007; chaired the Torts, Insurance and
Compensation Law Section in 1999; and served on the Executive Committee
of the Trial Lawyers Section.
Bailey served as past chair of the
Rail and Motor Law Committee of TIPS of the American Bar Association. He
served as President and eastern Vice-President of the National
Association of Railroad Trial Counsel. He is a member of the
International Association of Defense Counsel, Defense
Research Institute, and the Federation of Insurance and Corporate
Counsel. He is a frequent lecturer on trial law.
The 26-member Executive Committee has the authority to
act and speak for the NYSBA, consistent with previous action of the
House of Delegates, when the House is not in session. The Executive
Committee meets quarterly and at other times as necessary. The Executive
Committee is composed of the President, President-Elect, Treasurer, and
Secretary of the Association. In addition, there are vice-presidents
from each of the twelve judicial districts (the 1st district has two
Vice-presidents) in the state and eight members-at-large. The immediate
past president is also a member of this body. All officers are elected
to serve one-year terms.
The 74,000 member New York State
Bar Association is the official statewide organization of lawyers
in New York and the
largest voluntary state bar association in the nation. Founded in 1876,
NYSBA programs and activities have continuously served the public and
improved the justice system for more than 130 years.
