Eileen D. Millett of New York (Gibbons PC) has been elected Member-at-Large of the Executive Committee of the New York State Bar Association (NYSBA).

Millett earned her undergraduate degree from Syracuse University, and received her law degree from Syracuse University College of Law.

Millett is a partner of Gibbons PC practicing in the Real Property and Environmental Departments. She previously served as General Counsel to the Interstate Environmental Commission, Assistant Deputy Commissioner on Legal Affairs and Trials for the New York City Police Department, and Department of Personnel Inspector General for the New York City Department of Investigation.

Millett is a member of the Association’s House of Delegates, the Journal Board of Editors, the Environmental Law Section’s Executive Committee, and the Commercial and Federal Litigation Section. She co-chaired the Environmental Law Section’s Committee on Environmental Justice from 2000 to 2005.

Since 1989, Millett has published several articles in the New York Law Journal. She is a Fellow of the American Bar Association. She received the New York County Lawyers’ Association Outstanding Minority Achievement Award in 2005.

The 26-member Executive Committee has the authority to act and speak for the NYSBA, consistent with previous action of the House of Delegates, when the House is not in session. The Executive Committee meets quarterly and at other times as necessary. The Executive Committee is composed of the President, President-Elect, Treasurer, and Secretary of the Association. In addition, there are vice-presidents from each of the twelve judicial districts (the 1st district has two Vice-presidents) in the state and eight members-at-large. The immediate past president is also a member of this body. All officers are elected to serve one-year terms.

The 74,000 member New York State Bar Association is the official statewide organization of lawyers in New York and the largest voluntary state bar association in the nation. Founded in 1876, NYSBA programs and activities have continuously served the public and improved the justice system for more than 130 years.
