Sharon Stern Gerstman
Vice-President, 8th District

Sharon Stern Gerstman of Buffalo (NYS Supreme Court) has been elected to serve as Vice-President for the 8th Judicial District of the New York State Bar Association’s Executive Committee.

Gerstman received her undergraduate degree from Brown University and earned her law degree from the University of Pittsburgh Law School. She received an LL.M. from Yale Law School.

Gerstman is the principal law clerk and matrimonial referee for the New York Supreme Court, Eighth Judicial District. She is an adjunct professor at the University of Buffalo Law School.

Gerstman will serve her third term on the Association’s Executive Committee, where she was a Member-at-Large from 1999-2002 and an Eighth District Vice-President from 2003-2008. She has been a member of the House of Delegates since 1996. She served as chair of the Special Committees on Lawyer Advertising and Lawyer Referral Service Regulation, and Civil Practice Law and Rules. She previously co-chaired the Task Force on E-Filing and the Special Committee on Lawyer Advertising. She is a member of the Torts, Insurance and Compensation Law Section, a Life Fellow and a member of the Board of Directors of the New York Bar Foundation. She previously was a member of the Family Law Section, the Finance Committee, the Nominating Committee, the Committee on Public Relations, the Committee on Citizenship Education, and the Special Committee on Association Meetings and Multi-Jurisdictional Practice.

A frequent lecturer and author, Gerstman is a member of the American Bar Association’s House of Delegates and its Technology & Communications Committee. She previously served on the ABA’s Board of Governors. She is a Fellow of the American Bar Foundation. She is a past president of the Erie County Bar Foundation and the Women Lawyers of Western New York, and an active member of the Bar Association of Erie County.
