John H. Gross

Hauppauge attorney John H. Gross (Ingerman Smith, LLP) has been
elected to the Executive Committee of the New York State Bar Association
(NYSBA), representing the Tenth Judicial District (Nassau and Suffolk
counties).
The 26-member Executive Committee oversees the management and
administration of the state bar within policies determined by its
governing body, the House of Delegates.
Gross received his undergraduate degree from the Cornell School of
Industrial Labor Relations in 1968, and earned his law degree from
Cornell Law School in 1971.
Gross has represented numerous school districts and colleges in
education law, labor relations and employment law for over thirty
years.
Gross frequently litigates before the Commissioner of Education,
teacher tenure discharge tribunals, the State Division of Human Rights,
labor arbitration proceedings and the Public Employment Relations
Board. He serves as labor counsel for a number of colleges
negotiating faculty labor contracts, and has represented chief school
officers throughout the country.
Gross has addressed numerous organizations including the New York
State School Boards Association, Nassau-Suffolk School Boards
Association, the New York State Council of Chief School Officers, the
National Association of Educational Negotiators, the Nassau Academy of
Law and the Suffolk Academy of Law.
In addition, Gross has taught courses on the subjects of education law,
collective bargaining, and labor law. He has served as an adjunct
professor with New York University and as a member of the faculty of the
Cornell University Industrial and Labor Relations Program in New York
City.
Active in NYSBA, Gross served as a member of the House of Delegates,
Executive Committee and Nominating Committee. He served as
chair of the Committee on Alternative Dispute Resolution, and is
currently a member of the Board of Directors of The New York Bar
Foundation.
In 1999, New York State Chief Judge Judith Kaye appointed Gross as a
founding member of the New York State Judicial Institute on
Professionalism in the Law.
Gross served as an officer of the Suffolk County Bar Association, and is
a member of the Westchester County Bar Association. He is
treasurer of the New York State Fair Trial-Free Press Conference.
The New York State Bar Association, with more than 72,000 members, is
the official organization of lawyers in New York and the largest
voluntary state bar association in the nation.
