John S. Marwell
Vice-President, 9th District

Mount Kisco attorney John S. Marwell (Shamberg Marwell Davis & Hollis, P.C.) has been elected a Vice President and Member of the Executive Committee of the New York State Bar Association (NYSBA), representing the Ninth Judicial District (Dutchess, Orange, Putnam, Rockland, and Westchester counties).

The 26-member Executive Committee oversees the management and administration of the state bar within policies determined by its governing body, the House of Delegates.

Marwell received his undergraduate degree from Columbia College in 1969 and earned his law degree from Columbia Law School in 1973.

Marwell’s practice includes land use litigation, zoning, planning, environmental and real estate law.  He has served as lead counsel in several land use cases of state-wide significance.  He began his legal career as an attorney with IBM Corporation.

Marwell has served as a member of the House of Delegates since 2003.  He was a member of the American Bar Association House of Delegates in 2005-2006.

Active in community affairs, Marwell has served as Chairman of the Board of Teatown Lake Reservation, the largest private non-governmental nature preserve and education center in Westchester County.  He is a Fellow of the New York Bar Foundation, immediate past president of the Westchester County Bar Association, and a past president of Westchester County Bar Foundation. He is a former adjunct professor of corporate law at Pace University School of Law, and lectures on ethics and professionalism, litigation, land use and environmental law matters at bar association and other professional conferences.
