Peter J.W. Sherwin
Member-at-Large
Manhattan attorney Peter J.W. Sherwin (Proskauer Rose) has been
elected to the Executive Committee of the New York State Bar
Association. He will serve as a member-at-large.
The 26-member Executive Committee oversees the management and
administration of the Association within policies determined by its
governing body, the House of Delegates.
Sherwin is a partner in Proskauer’s Litigation and Dispute
Resolution Department and chair of the firm’s International
Arbitration Practice. He is a member of New York City Mayor Michael
Bloomberg’s Advisory Committee on the Judiciary and a member of
the Board of Directors of Citizens Union, a New York City good
government organization.
Sherwin earned his J.D. from Columbia University School of Law, where
he was articles editor of the “Journal of Transnational
Law.” He received a B.S. in chemistry and a B.A. in French and
German, both degrees magna cum laude and Phi Beta Kappa, from Washington
& Lee University. Sherwin clerked for U. S. District Judge Ann
Aldrich of Ohio.
Active in the Association, Sherwin has served in the House of
Delegates for four years. He chairs the Civil Rights Committee and
the Special Committee on Collateral Consequences of Criminal
Proceedings. He also is a member of the Special Committee on Legal
Issues Affecting Same-Sex Couples. Sherwin is a Life Fellow of the New
York Bar Foundation.
