Welcome!

Image

On behalf of the members of one of the largest and most vibrant sections of the Association, I welcome you to the Family Law Section website.

Our Section's members come from all over New York State and handle every kind of matter relating to families -- from the property, support and custody issues attendant to divorce and the break-up of unmarried partners, to the myriad matters heard in the State’s Family Courts.  Our members are private practitioners, government attorneys, legal services attorneys and students.

Our Section’s CLE programs address the needs of all of our members – from basic family law topics for lawyers new to the field to advanced treatment of evolving issues for family law veterans. Our social programs throughout the State – the three-day summer meeting being the Section’s annual highlight – offer our  members incomparable networking opportunities in an always welcoming, collegial setting.

The Family Law Section is committed to giving every member a voice in the Section’s business.  All members, no matter how new to the Section, are encouraged to serve on one or more of our many standing committees or on an ad hoc committee organized to address a particular issue.  Members who wish to be appointed to a committee should contact Lisa J. Bataille at lbataille@nysba.org.

All of our members receive four issues of the Family Law Review each year - an outstanding publication that analyzes evolving issues and examines recent decisions.  Members also have access to the Section’s list serve  on which members can engage in discussions with each other -- an invaluable resource for veteran and novice practitioners.  Through this website and e-blasts, we keep members apprised of our CLE and networking programs, substantive case reviews, and special reports.

Join us today!  You don't have to be admitted to practice law in New York;  anyone admitted to practice law can become a member of the NYSBA, our Section and its Committees and Chapters.

With my best wishes,

Pamela M. Sloan
Chair of the Section (2012-14)
