Stephen P. Younger
President-Elect

New York attorney Stephen P. Younger, a partner of Patterson Belknap Webb & Tyler, LLP, is the President-Elect of the 76,000-member New York State Bar Association. In this upcoming year, Younger will chair the House of Delegates and co-chair the President's Committee on Access to Justice.

A leading commercial litigator known for his work in the arbitration field, Younger regularly represents financial institutions, mutual funds, hedge funds, pension funds and venture capital firms in securities disputes. He has developed an extensive practice representing Latin American companies.

Prior to joining Patterson Belknap in 1985, Younger served as law clerk to the Hon. Hugh R. Jones, Associate Judge for the New York Court of Appeals.

Younger graduated cum laude from Harvard University in 1977, and earned his law degree magna cum laude from Albany Law School in 1982.  He is admitted to practice in the U.S. District Court, Southern and Eastern Districts of New York; District of Colorado; U.S. Court of Appeals, Second Circuit; and U.S. Tax Court.

Active in the NYSBA, Younger is a member of the House of Delegates.  He served as past chair of the Commercial and Federal Litigation Section, and past chair of the Section’s Securities Litigation Committee and Pro Bono and Public Interest Committee.   He is a fellow of The New York Bar Foundation.

In addition to his NYSBA activities, Younger is a member of the Association of the Bar of the City of New York where he served on the Committee on Arbitration, and as secretary of the Task Force on Civil Courts.  He is a member of the N.Y.S. Unified Court System ADR Advisory Committee, and the N.Y.S. Supreme Court Advisory Committee, Commercial Division.

Younger serves as a mediator for the United States District Court, Southern and Eastern Districts of New York; executive committee member of the CPR Institute for Dispute Resolution; and treasurer of the Historical Society of the N.Y.S. Courts.  He is a member of the Congress of Fellows, and the Center for International Legal Studies.

Younger is a Trustee of Albany Law School, and past president of the law school’s National Alumni Council.  He is a frequent lecturer and author in the fields of securities litigation, commercial arbitration and international dispute resolution.
