The New York State Commission on Judicial Nomination has announced that it has extended the deadline for submitting applications for the current vacancy on the Court of Appeals, which is due to the untimely passing of Associate Judge Theodore T. Jones.

Applications for the Associate Judge vacancy must now be submitted to the Commission no later than December 21, 2012. The extension is intended to ensure that the size and composition of the pool of applicants for the State’s highest court represents the broadest possible spectrum of qualified candidates and to give applicants additional time given the holiday season. The Commission will take a fresh look at all applications submitted for this vacancy, evaluating candidates who previously submitted applications for the vacancy on the Court created as the result of Associate Judge Carmen B. Ciparick’s upcoming retirement, as well as considering all new applicants.

Applications may be downloaded from the Commission’s website, http://www.nysegov.com/cjn/. Applications may be filed electronically by emailing them to CJN_Applications@pbwt.com, or otherwise submitted by mail to the Commission’s Counsel at:
