MONROE COUNTY BAR ASSOCIATION RECEIVES NYS CONFERENCE
OF BAR LEADERS INNOVATION AWARD
NEW YORK—The New York State Conference of Bar Leaders today
announced the Monroe County Bar Association has received its 2011 Bar
Leader Innovation Award for Medium Bar Associations (500 – 1,999
members). The award honors a local bar for its public service and
innovative programming that enhances the public’s understanding of
the law.
The award was given at the NYSCBL Innovation Awards Breakfast January
28th during the New York State Bar Association’s 134th Annual
Meeting at the Hilton New York in New York City.
The award recognizes the Monroe County Bar for its new “Lawyer
Succession Registry” program, which helps lawyers to plan for law
practice continuity by designating in advance another lawyer who is
willing to assist in the transfer of client files in the event of
disability, death or unavailability of the registering lawyer. The
program is designed to assist solo- and small-firm practitioners, as
well as their clients.
“Taking care of our clients is a top priority for attorneys.
This especially holds true for the many hard-working solo- and
small-firm lawyers who do not have the resources of large firms.
Recognizing this, the Monroe County Bar created an outstanding program
that improves the practice of law,” said Earamichia Brown of New
York (Metropolitan Transportation Authority Office of the Inspector
General) chair of the Conference of Bar Leaders. “We are pleased
to recognize the Monroe County Bar for serving its members, while
fostering public confidence in the legal profession.”
Awards were given in three member categories—small, medium and
large bar associations in New York. They recognize outstanding programs
sponsored by local, ethnic, specialty, minority and women’s bar
associations. The awards program serves to inform bar leaders of new
activities and programs that promote public welfare, public
understanding of the law, and attorneys’ professional
responsibilities.
Formed in 1979, the New York State Conference of Bar Leaders provides
a forum to exchange information about issues and activities among local
bar leaders, as well as between the state bar and local bar leaders.
The 77,000-member New York State Bar Association is the official
statewide organization of lawyers in New York and the largest voluntary
state bar association in the nation. Founded in 1876, State Bar programs
and activities have continuously served the public and improved the
justice system for 135 years.
