PLATTSBURGH ATTORNEY ROBERT T. BOOTH RECEIVES NEW
YORK STATE BAR ASSOCIATION’S 2011 ANGELO T. COMETA AWARD
ALBANY—Robert T. Booth of Plattsburgh received the New York
State Bar Association Committee on Lawyer Referral Service’s
Angelo T. Cometa Award at the Bar’s House of Delegates Dinner on
April 1.
Booth was honored for his 28 years of service to the Committee on
Lawyer Referral Service, which he chaired from 1985 to 1988. Committee
members cited his strong advocacy for quality legal services and the
importance of providing a resource for reliable legal referrals to
members of the community.
“Robert Booth led our committee with dedication and aplomb as
it grew to serve more New Yorkers. He inspired other local bar
associations to establish their own lawyer referral services. As a
result of his efforts, more New Yorkers were able to find the right
attorney for their legal matters, thereby improving public confidence in
the justice system,” said Committee Chair Rajpattie
Persaud-Billette. “We are pleased to recognize his many years of
service providing quality referrals to the public.”
A graduate of Yale University and Albany Law School, Robert Booth
retired from the practice of law in 2006. He is an active member of the
State Bar’s Senior Lawyers Section.
The award is named for Angelo T. Cometa, past State Bar President and
chair of the Committee on Lawyer Referral Service. It was created in
2007 to recognize those who demonstrate an extraordinary commitment
toward advancing the goals of the State Bar’s Lawyer Referral and
Information Service (LRIS). The LRIS helps coordinate a lawyer referral
and information system, as well as provides the public with information
about available legal services.
Past winners of the Cometa Award include: the Albany Law School Clinic
and Justice Center; the Capital District Women’s Bar
Association Legal Project, Inc.; Allen J. Charne of New York (New York
City Bar); and Angelo T. Cometa.
The 77,000-member New York State Bar Association is the largest
voluntary state bar association in the nation. It was founded in
1876.
