STATE BAR ASSOCIATION WINS ABA SOLO AND SMALL FIRM
AWARD
The American Bar Association has recognized the New York State Bar
Association with its 2011 Solo and Small Firm Project Award for the
program, “Building A Successful Solo/Small Firm Practice: Taking
Steps to Achieve Success.”
"Fifty-six percent of our 77,000 members practice in solo and small-firm
settings. We are committed to helping these members by providing
practical solutions and educational programs to meet their needs. This
award recognizes our commitment," said State Bar President Stephen P.
Younger of New York City (Patterson Belknap Webb & Tyler).
“Building a Practice” was designed to help solo and
small-firm lawyers make their existing practices thrive. Topics
included: “Using a Website and Social Media to Build Your
Practice;” “The Future of Solo and Small Firm
Practice;” and “Running Your Practice Efficiently: Best
Practices for Solos.” Nineteen speakers and two moderators
participated.
“The New York State Bar Association has truly made a difference
in the legal community. It has worked tirelessly where the only reward
was the satisfaction of a job well done. It is fitting that we further
honor their extraordinary accomplishments,” said Joseph A.
DeWoskin (Waits, Brownlee, Berger & DeWoskin), chair of the ABA
General Practice Solo Division.
The full-day program was offered live on November 8, 2010, in New
York City and in Albany, via videoconference. It was recorded and made
available for later viewing. Twelve minority, ethnic and women’s
bar associations co-sponsored the event. Eighty-five percent of the 147
attendees rated the program, “excellent” or
“good.”
Past State Bar President Robert Ostertag of Poughkeepsie (Ostertag
O’Leary Barrett & Faulkner) and Law Practice Management
Committee Chair Gary Munneke of White Plains (Pace Law School) accepted
the award on May 13, 2011, in St. Louis, MO, at the ABA General
Practice, Solo and Small Firm Division’s Spring Meeting.
