Development in a Tough Economy
ALBANY—To help attorneys navigate the current employment
landscape and identify where the best legal career opportunities may be
found in a tough economy, the New York State Bar Association’s
Committee on Lawyers in Transition will offer a free webcast titled,
“Attorney Employment Outlook 2010 and Beyond.” The program
will take place on Wednesday, February 24th from 12 to 2 p.m. at the New
York office of Mitchell Silberberg & Knupp LLP and will be available
to any lawyer who pre-registers at www.nysba.org/LawyersinTransition.
“Whether an attorney has lost a job in the recession, is
re-entering the work force after taking family leave, or simply wants to
learn more about a new practice area, this lecture will give practical
advice on the areas of the law that offer the best opportunities for
employment,” said State Bar Association President Michael E.
Getnick (Getnick Livingston Atkinson & Priore, LLP of Utica and of
counsel to Getnick & Getnick of New York City). “The Committee
on Lawyers in Transition continues to provide high-quality, timely and
beneficial information that can really make a difference for attorneys
struggling in this difficult job market.”
Featured topics include: Document Review and E-discovery Jobs; Law
Firm Associate and In-House Counsel Jobs; Law Firm Partner and General
Counsel Jobs; Government Jobs; Premium Contract Attorney Jobs; and
Re-entry Attorney Jobs.
Spearheaded by Lauren J. Wachtler of New York (Mitchell Silberberg
& Knupp LLP), chair of the State Bar’s Committee on Lawyers in
Transition, the webcast is part of an overall program to assist
attorneys who are reentering the job market or maintaining their
businesses in a down economy.
The committee supports lawyers who are currently unemployed, looking
to make a career change, leaving a current job or transitioning back
into the workforce after time away from the legal profession.
Pre-registration is required for the free program. If attorneys are
unable to participate in the live webinar, the session will be archived
and available on the committee’s Web site at www.nysba.org/LawyersinTransition.
Other services offered by the Lawyers in Transition Committee include
the Lawyers in Transition blog that provides updated information on
networking opportunities, seminars, job information and other
information related to career searches. Also available on the
committee’s Web site is information on a variety of job postings,
volunteer and pro-bono opportunities, legal career re-entry programs,
