STATE BAR ASSOCIATION’S SPRING RADIO CAMPAIGN
PROVIDES NEW YORKERS WITH IMPORTANT INFORMATION AND USEFUL RESOURCES TO
AVOID FORECLOSURE AND REDUCE DEBT
Campaign Also Praises State Bar Members for Their
Outstanding Efforts to Volunteer Pro Bono Services and Reaffirms the
Important Role New York’s Courts Play in Promoting Access to
Justice
Continuing its proud tradition of working to improve access to
justice for all citizens, the New York State Bar Association today
unveiled its newest statewide radio announcement series designed to
inform the public about the resources and information it offers to help
people avoid mortgage foreclosure and obtain debt relief. Narrated by
State Bar President Michael E. Getnick (Getnick Livingston Atkinson
& Priore, LLP of Utica and of counsel to Getnick & Getnick of
New York City), the ad campaign also commends State Bar members for
providing hundreds of thousands of hours of free legal services to those
in need. He further added that those attorneys, alone, who participate
in the Empire Counsel Program have provided more than 250,000 hours of
such free legal services. The final announcement stresses the important
role that New York’s court system plays in ensuring that justice
is served.
“High levels of unemployment, skyrocketing foreclosures, and
tough fiscal times have made getting help to our most vulnerable
citizens all the more imperative,” said President Getnick.
“These radio announcements alert people to resources and tools
that are available through our State Bar Web site, including how to find
legal representation from one of the thousands of our lawyers who donate
their services. This commitment to the public good makes a real
difference in a family’s life and can help save their home and
mitigate the crushing burden of financial debt.”
The NCSA (Non-Commercial Sustaining Announcements) spots were
produced and distributed in coordination with the New York State
Broadcasters Association as part of an ongoing radio campaign designed
to educate citizens about a wide variety of important legal issues that
affect the lives of New Yorkers. The spots will run from March 15th
through April 11th. It is anticipated that the spots will air
several thousand times on radio stations across the state throughout the
four-week campaign.
The scripts for the three radio announcements are as follows:
Mortgage Foreclosure and Financial Debt:
30-seconds
This is Mike Getnick, President of the New York State Bar
Association. These tough economic times have led to financial
difficulties for many families. Just keeping pace with mortgage and
credit card bills can be a struggle. You don’t have to face these
problems alone. Our Web site has the resources available to help. For

The Good We Do as Attorneys: 60-seconds
This is Mike Getnick, President of the New York State Bar
Association. The financial turmoil during the last year has shattered
the dreams and confidence of many. Record levels of unemployment and a
high number of mortgage foreclosures, tough layoffs and the loss of
critical health insurance coverage have had a devastating impact on the
lives of our most vulnerable citizens. Many have lost hope and are not
sure where to turn. New York State Bar Association lawyers take pride in
providing free legal services to help the poor. Last year, our members
alone contributed more than 250,000 hours of pro bono services. Whether
it is saving a home from foreclosure or helping parents secure benefits
for their children, our members answer the call to help those in need
but who cannot afford to pay. Please visit www.nysba.org/probono. Pro bono
service. It’s the good we do all
year-round.

The Importance of New York’s Courts:
30-seconds
This is Mike Getnick, President of the New York State Bar
Association. Each year, our courts handle millions of cases: small
claims, family court proceedings, criminal trials. The courts play a
central role in the administration of justice. They are often the last
resort in ensuring that citizens can enforce their rights. Making sure
our courts remain independent and efficient is central to promoting our
democratic values and access to
justice.
