STATE BAR ASSOCIATION’S RADIO CAMPAIGN
ADDRESSES
WAYS TO IMPROVE THE QUALITY OF LIFE FOR
NEW YORKERS
The New York State Bar
Association recently unveiled a new radio campaign focusing on three
issues central to improving the quality of life of New Yorkers:
preventing mortgage foreclosures, reducing the impact of global climate
change, and promoting access to justice through the expansion of a civil
right to counsel. State Bar President Bernice K. Leber (Arent Fox
LLP) narrated the radio announcements.
The spots were produced and
distributed in coordination with the New York StateBroadcasters Association as
part of an ongoing radio campaign to raise public awareness about a wide
variety of legal issues that affect the lives of New Yorkers.
“During these difficult
financial times, it is important for members of the legal profession to
do all we can to help improve everyone’s quality of life,”
said Leber. “These ads highlight some of the most important
issues currently facing the public and our leaders in government.
By taking a proactive approach, the State Bar is providing workable
solutions that truly make a positive difference in the lives of New
Yorkers.”
The spots will run from April
20th through May 17th. It is anticipated that the ads will air
several thousand times on radio stations across the state throughout the
four-week campaign. The scripts for the three radio ads are as
follows:
Script #1 - Mortgage Foreclosures (30
Seconds)
This is Bernice Leber,
President of the New
YorkState Bar Association. Owning a home is part
of the American Dream. However, the threat of foreclosure has put
that dream in jeopardy. You do not have to face these difficult
times alone. Our Web site at nysba.org gives
you the information that can help you avoid foreclosure and save your
most important investment. Visit nysba.org. Everyone
deserves a chance to enjoy the American
Dream.

Script #2 - Climate Change (30
Seconds)
This is Bernice Leber,
President of the New
York State Bar Association. From the
air we breathe to the water we drink, climate change impacts our quality
of life. We’re committed to promoting solutions to reduce
the harmful effects of global warming, encourage conservation, and
protect our most precious natural resources. See what we’re
doing to address climate change at nysba.org. We can make a
difference in the lives of our children and in the future of our
planet.

Script #3 - Civil Legal Services (60
Seconds)
This is Bernice Leber,
President of the New
York State Bar Association. The
dramatic downturn in the economy has affected all of us. And,
every day, more and more of our most vulnerable citizens are unable to
afford to hire an attorney to represent them on even the most basic
quality of life needs. Permanent, adequate support for a right to
counsel in these matters could mean the difference between losing a home
or keeping it, gaining or losing custody of a child or finding refuge
from domestic violence and abuse. Despite thousands of hours of
free legal services provided by New Yorklawyers each year, we can only
meet 15 percent of the civil legal service needs of the poor.
This must change. The promise of equal justice for all must extend to
every citizen. When basic human needs are at stake, everyone
deserves the right to counsel. For more information, visit our
Web site at nysba.org.
