STATEMENT FROM THE NEW YORK STATE BAR ASSOCIATION ON
JUDICIAL COMPENSATION
Today State Supreme Court
Justice Edward Lehner ordered the Governor, Senate and Assembly to raise
the pay of New
York’s judges. In response to
this news, New York State Bar Association President Bernice K. Leber (Arent
Fox LLP) issued the following statement.
“While it is the policy of our Association
not to comment on pending litigation and no final determination on this
case has been made, it once again raises the issue of judicial
compensation. Our Association has
worked tirelessly in support of a fair judicial pay increase and it
remains our top legislative priority. New
York’s judges have
gone nearly a decade without so much as a cost of living increase -- the
longest stretch of any state in the nation. With the legislative session
winding down, the Governor, Senate and Assembly need to come together
and provide our judges with the long overdue pay raise they
deserve.”
