STATE BAR ASSOCIATION SEEKS NOMINEES FOR 2012 EXCELLENCE IN PUBLIC SERVICE AWARDS

The New York State Bar Association is seeking nominees for the 2012 Award for Excellence in Public Service.

The award, sponsored by the Committee on Attorneys in Public Service, recognizes a lawyer’s commitment to, and performance of, public service. It will be presented on Jan. 24, 2012 during the State Bar’s Annual Meeting.

“The work of public service attorneys benefits all New Yorkers. Through this award, we shine a light on their many contributions to advance the public interest” said Committee Chair Peter Loomis of Albany (Retired, New York State Department of Transportation). “We look forward to honoring another group of outstanding recipients.”

The deadline for nominations is Sept. 30, 2011. Nominations should be sent to Maria Kroth, New York State Bar Association, One Elk Street, Albany, NY 12207. They also may be faxed to 518-487-5579 or e-mailed to caps@nysba.org.

Last year’s award recipients were: Norman Goodman, county clerk of New York County; Jerome Lefkowitz, chair of the Public Employment Relations Board; and Frederick P. Schaffer, general counsel and senior vice chancellor for legal affairs at the City University of New York.

The 77,000-member New York State Bar Association is the largest voluntary state bar association in the nation. It was founded in 1876.
