STATE BAR ASSOCIATION SEEKS NOMINEES FOR 18THANNUAL
PRESIDENT’S PRO BONO SERVICE AWARDS
Nineteen awards will be
presented this year; new award will honor senior
attorneys
ALBANY- The New York State Bar Association is seeking nominees for
the 18th annual President’s Pro Bono Service Awards. The
prestigious awards are bestowed each year upon attorneys who best
illustrate the legal profession’s commitment to provide all New
Yorkers with equal access to the justice system through pro bono
services. This year marks the addition of a new Senior Pro Bono Service
Award honoring senior attorneys, aged sixty-five and older. Winners will
be announced at the Bar Association’s annual Law Day awards
luncheon on May 1st in Albany.
A total of 19 awards will be presented.
They will go to one attorney in each of the state’s 12 Judicial
Districts who demonstrated outstanding pro bono services in 2007, to a
young attorney who has practiced for less than 10 years or is under the
age of 36, to an attorney who provided outstanding pro bono service
while serving as in-house counsel or a government attorney, and to a
senior attorney. Four additional awards will be issued to one large
firm, one mid-size or small firm, one law student and a law school
group.
Winners will be selected by a committee
comprised of the chairs of the President’s Committee on Access to
Justice, the Committee on Legal Aid, the Pro Bono Coordinators Network
and the Director of the Association’s Department of Pro Bono
Affairs. Nominees will be judged on the number of pro bono clients
served, quantity of hours, impact of services for clients and impact on
the pro bono program.
