STATE BAR'S CORPORATE COUNSEL SECTION TO DISCUSS
TRADEMARK AND COPYRIGHT LAW & EMPLOYMENT DISCRIMINATION CLAIMS
AT ASSOCIATION'S ANNUAL MEETING
The Corporate Counsel Section’s
annual meeting program on Wednesday, January 30, at the Marriott
Marquis, will focus on trademark & copyright law and defending
against employment discrimination claims. The Corporate Counsel Section
is comprised of more than 1,700 attorneys who serve as in-house counsel
to corporations and other business entities, as well as attorneys in law
firms, government, and academic institutions.
Speakers Bruce P. Keller
of New York
City (Debevoise & Plimpton
LLP) and Eric W. McCormick of New York
City(Duane Morris LLP) will
lead discussions, including an overview of the basic principles of
trademark and copyright law before expanding to a dialogue on the latest
changes and how they affect corporations. The program will begin at 9:00
a.m.
The following session, beginning at 10:45 a.m., will feature speakers
Claudia A. Ryan of Albany (Ryan & Smallacombe, PLLC), Ana S. Salper
of New York City (Epstein Becker & Green PC) and Joseph A. Saccomano
Jr. of White Plains (Jackson Lewis LLP), who will address issues such as
defending employment claims, investigation of employee claims, practice
before administrative agencies and defense of litigation in state and
federal courts. Program Chair Steven Mosenson of New York
City (Cerebral Palsy Association
of the State of New
York) said the course will
offer useful information for lawyers representing very broad
perspectives.
“Trademark and copyright laws are extremely complex and specific
issues that affect entrepreneurs and business people
across New
York State,” Mosenson said. “Our hope is that through this
program some of the complexities may be broken down into more manageable
information every lawyer can use to better represent his or her clients.
It’s a great program for in-house lawyers who practice in the
public and private sectors.
The 74,000-member New York State Bar
