LITIGATION SECTION TO HONOR ALBERT M. ROSENBLATT, RETIRED JUDGE OF THE
COURT OF APPEALS
Judge Rosenblatt
to Receive Prestigious Stanley H. Fuld Award
in New York
City
The New York State Bar
Association’s Commercial and Federal Litigation Section will
present its annual Stanley H. Fuld Award to Associate Judge of the Court
of Appeals, Albert M. Rosenblatt, who served on the court from 1998
until his retirement in December of 2006. The honor is named for the
late Chief Judge Stanley H. Fuld, who also served on the New York State
Court of Appeals from 1946 to 1973, including his last six years as
Chief Judge. The award is presented annually to recognize outstanding
contributions to commercial law and litigation.
Commercial and Federal Litigation Section
Chair Carrie H. Cohen (Assistant United States Attorney, Southern
District of New York) said, “Judge Rosenblatt’s knowledge
and passion for the law made him a wonderful jurist and he served the
people of the State of New York with great distinction. It is
truly an honor for our Section to be able to bestow the Stanley H. Fuld
Award on Judge Rosenblatt.”
Judge Albert M. Rosenblatt served
as the District Attorney of Dutchess County from 1969 to 1975 and as a
Dutchess County Judge from 1976 to 1981. He was a New York State Supreme
Court Justice from 1982 to 1987, New
York State's
Chief Administrative Judge from 1987 to 1989 and Associate Justice of
the Appellate Division, Second Department from 1989 to 1998. He was
appointed by Governor George E. Pataki as Associate Judge of the Court
of Appeals in December 1998, where he served until retiring in
2006. He continues to practice
at McCabe and Mack LLP
in New York City.
Judge Rosenblatt earned a B.A. degree from
the University of Pennsylvania in
1957 and his Juris Doctor degree at Harvard Law Schoolin
1960. He was admitted to the New York State Bar in
1961.
The Honorable Chief Judge Judith S.
Kaye, a past Fuld Award winner who served with Judge Rosenblatt on the
Court of Appeals for 8 years, will present the award on January 30,
2008, during the State Bar Association’s annual meeting at the
Marriott Marquis in Manhattan.
Other past honorees include the Hon. Lewis A. Kaplan, U.S. District
Judge for the Southern District of New York; the New York State
Commercial Division Judges; former State Attorney General Eliot Spitzer;
U.S. Supreme Court Justice Antonin Scalia; and U.S. Circuit Senior Judge
for the 2nd Circuit Court of
Appeals Joseph M. McLaughlin.
In addition to serving on the
bench, Judge Rosenblatt is the President of
the Historical Society of the Courts of the State of New Yorkand has
edited a book titled, The
Judges of the New York Court of Appeals: A Biographical
History; a pictorial presentation of the
160-year legal legacy of the New York Court of Appeals, featuring
original biographies of Chief and Associate Judges. Additional

Judge Rosenblatt is married to Dr.
Julia (Carlson) Rosenblatt, a writer and a former Vassar Collegeprofessor, with whom herecently co-authored a book entitled Historic Courthouses of New York
State, published by Turner Publishing Company
in 2007. Judge Rosenblatt and Dr. Rosenblatt reside in LaGrange , New York.
They have one daughter.

procedure in the areas of commercial and federal litigation, and
enhances the administration of justice.
