ATTORNEY PROFESSIONALISM
Christopher T. McGrath, a longtime litigator and legal educator, has
been named the 2012 recipient of the New York State Bar
Association’s Attorney Professionalism Award.
Sponsored by the Bar Association’s Committee on Attorney
Professionalism, the award recognizes a State Bar member who displays
the highest standards of professionalism, commitment to promoting
respect for the legal system, outstanding ethical conduct, competence,
good judgment, integrity and civility. The award was January 26, 2012,
at the Association’s Annual Meeting in Manhattan.
McGrath, a Garden City resident, is a personal injury attorney and
partner in the Long Island law firm of Sullivan Papain Block McGrath
& Cannavo. He is a former president of the Nassau County Bar
Association (2005-06) and currently chairs its Judicial Screening
Committee.
“Clients, colleagues and adversaries alike remark on Chris
McGrath’s skills as a trial lawyer, while noting that he maintains
the demeanor of a gentleman, no matter how zealous his advocacy,”
said Deena R. Ehrlich, executive director of the Nassau County Bar
Association.
McGrath, an adjunct professor of law at Hofstra University School of
Law, also teaches practicing attorneys, including through State Bar
programs, on topics ranging from medical negligence to ethics.
“Chris McGrath exemplifies the State Bar Association’s
high standard for service to the profession,” said Committee Chair
Marion Hancock Fish of Syracuse (Hancock Estabrook). “He not only
represents his clients with great enthusiasm, but also is deeply
involved with the Nassau County Bar and in educating law students and
practicing attorneys.”
McGrath graduated cum laude from St. John’s University. He
received his law degree from the University of Dayton (Ohio) School of
Law.
Founded in 1876, the 77,000-member New York State Bar Association is
