HOFSTRA LAW STUDENT WINS NEW YORK BAR FOUNDATION
FELLOWSHIP
Jonathan Riddix, a law student at the Maurice A. Deane School of Law at
Hofstra University, is the 2012 recipient of the Commercial and Federal
Litigation Section Minority Summer Fellowship, The New York Bar
Foundation announced today.
As the recipient of the $6,000 fellowship, Riddix will work this
summer in the chambers of New York County Commercial Division Justice
Shirley Kornreich.
“We are pleased to present this prestigious fellowship to
Jonathan Riddix. In his first year of law school, he has shown
exceptional promise,” said Foundation President M. Catherine
Richardson of Syracuse (Bond, Schoeneck & King). “I am
confident that he will gain a wealth of experience from this fellowship
and become an excellent attorney.”
A graduate of Howard University and the Howard University School of
Divinity, Riddix expects to graduate from Hofstra Law in 2014. He has
served as a paralegal and engaged in legal research defending homeowners
in mortgage foreclosure proceedings. He is a member of the Phi Alpha
Delta Law Fraternity and the Black Law Student Association.
Prior to law school, he was a math and science teacher at a charter
school in Washington D.C. He also worked for the District of Columbia
Department of Environment, supervising youth in green initiatives and
organizing community outreach and environmental conservation
projects.
“The Commercial and Federal Litigation Section is proud to fund
this generous fellowship and help foster greater diversity among
commercial and federal litigators,” said David H. Tennant of
Rochester (Nixon Peabody), chair of the Commercial and Federal
Litigation Section. “This fellowship provides a valuable
opportunity to gain real-world experience working for a premier
judge.”
