2.0 TOTAL MCLE CREDITS (2.0 MCLE credits in areas of
professional practice)
The long-held view that, once a lawyer leaves law firm practice for the
corporate world he or she can never go back, has fallen by the way
side. Just as law firm experience historically has been
viewed as providing critical skills for in-house counsel, the increasing
trend in the profession is that in-house experience certainly can add
significant value to law firms, particularly when looking to build
specific industry or practice area expertise.
This program, featuring a panel of law firm and in-house lawyers who
have successfully developed the skills to navigate the transitions
between both practice worlds, addresses:
• Whether the grass is really greener in-house and how to
cultivate the professional skills necessary to successfully manage the
transition between the law firm and corporate cultures;
• The “Top 3” things in-house panelists wish they had
known before going in-house;
• Making the transition to in-house practice successfully:
-Spotting issues before they arise
-Serving only one client
-The “triage” approach to law practice
-Learning to say “yes,” while managing risk
-Living as a “cost center” rather than revenue
generator
-Learning to apply specialized skills in a
multi-disciplinary organization
• What skills developed as an in-house lawyer improved the quality
of client service upon return to a firm;
• How in-house practitioners can position themselves for a
successful return to firm practice, and the business development
challenges that await;
• Ways that law firms can improve outreach to in-house
practitioners as a means to develop specialized practice areas
