Product Description

Helping a client pay for long term care remains one of the key focuses of any elder law attorney’s practice. Any attorney counseling clients as to how to navigate the complex continuum of care must know the intricacies of effective planning. While Medicaid is the most prevalent form of financing long term care, other options exist, and more and more families are looking for guidance as to those other options.
This program highlights some of those options and focuses on the alternative methods for paying for long term care. An expansive discussion of long term care insurance delves into this resource as a means for paying for care, including basics on each policy, added features to look for in a policy, use of a policy to pay for assisted living and home care services, and an analysis of partnership and non-partnership policies.  A discussion of reverse mortgages covers the origins of this financing technique and outlines some requirements and myths about using a reverse mortgage. The speakers also contrast private and commercial annuities, provide a primer on Medicaid compliant annuities, and discuss administrative aspects of an annuity. Veterans’ benefits, an often ignored benefit available to many people, are explained, including basic pensions, real property benefits, health care benefits, burial benefits, the Aid and Attendance pension, and the impact of such benefits on a recipient’s Medicaid eligibility.
