President's Pro Bono Service Awards

These prestigious awards are intended to recognize outstanding pro bono service and to emphasize the importance of such service in helping to provide all New Yorkers with equal access to the justice system, regardless of income. Nineteen awards will be given.

Individual Attorneys

An award will be presented to an attorney in each of the 12 Judicial Districts; to one lawyer who has practiced for less than 10 years or who is under age 36; and to an attorney who has performed pro bono service while serving as an in-house-counsel or government attorney.

Senior Pro Bono Award

This award was created in 2007 to recognize and honor the contribution of a senior attorney, 65 or older, who has made an outstanding contribution to delivering free legal services to the poor.

Law Firms, Law Students, and Law Schools

One award will be presented to a large law firm and one to a small or mid-sized law firm which have actively and successfully encouraged pro bono service by their attorneys. An award will also be presented to an individual law student and to a law school group in recognition of their outstanding pro bono commitment.
